RADIO 4 LOGO

The aim of my documentary is to increase awareness relating to the issue of male suicide and promote a discussion amongst listeners and interviewees combined. Therefore, I have chosen Radio 4 as my proposed target station, as it offers its listeners in mixed speech service, regarding news and current affairs issues, which fits in well with my vision for the documentary. Additionally, the remit of Radio 4 is to entertain and inform its core demographic of 55-75 year olds, seeking intelligent programmes.

I think that this piece will fit well within the station, as Radio 4 have scheduled series, such as 'All in the mind' and 'Thinking Allowed' which have both touched upon the increasing issue of suicide previously. Moreover, the only programme which touched upon the gender gap of suicides in the UK, was nine years ago, in 2007, with Laurie Taylor's 'Thinking Allowed' series. One episode from the four part series focused on the role of sexuality in suicides, relating to the LGBT community.
